3 Tips For Making Freshly Cut Flowers Last Longer During Events

Posted by on Sep 23, 2014 in Blog, Business

If you’re planning an event that needs freshly cut flowers, you’ll may need to keep those flowers looking fresh for hours and sometimes days. Flowers don’t live too long without water, after all. Here are three tips for keeping those flowers looking beautiful for as long as possible: 1. Keep Them Cool Freshly cut flowers need to be kept cool or they will begin to wilt. Roses, especially, are sensitive to heat of any kind. Until it is time to bring the flowers to the location of your event, make sure to keep them in a refrigerator. While transferring, you can also keep smaller cut flowers like corsages and small bouquets in a large cooler. When displaying your flowers, make sure they’re never out in the sun. Keep a shaded umbrella or tent over them if you have to take them outside in direct sunlight. You can also keep fans blowing on the flowers to try and keep them cooler. This is particularly advisable during the hot summer months. 2. Keep Them in Water as Long as Possible This may sound obvious, but freshly cut flowers need to be kept in water as long as possible. Keep them in a vase or bin of water as long as you can, and when you transport them wrap each stem with a moist paper tower or a piece of cellophane with water inside of it. Either can be kept in place with a rubber band. If you have flowers that are looking especially parch, you can spray them with a mist bottle to keep them fresh for slightly longer. If they’ll be sitting in one spot for a long time, remember that you should place them back inside vases/buckets of water. 3. Trim the Stems Finally, if you have bouquets of flowers that you know you’ll have for a larger part of the day or even across multiple days, you might want to trim a bit off each of the stems daily. This helps the flowers absorb as much water as possible. Use a knife to cut the stems while holding them underwater, as this prevents any air from getting up into the stem. Remember to place them back inside water immediately. Use the above tips when displaying and transporting freshly cut flowers to help them look gorgeous as long as possible. For more tips, follow the instructions given by your florist and ask for their advice in unique...

4 Advantages of Using Mobile Billboards

Posted by on Sep 23, 2014 in Blog, Business

Business managers are always looking for new ways to ensure their marketing campaigns actually reach their potential customers. While static billboards can be an effective tool, the problem is that they don’t always target a specific demographic. Static billboards advertise to whoever happens to be going down the highway at that time. Mobile billboards get around this problem by positioning the billboard exactly where you want it each day. The truck with the billboard can drive down a particular route or stop at a specific location. Mobile signs offer you a number of other advantages that are listed below. Extremely Eye-Catching If you place a large, eye-catching graphic on a billboard and send it driving down the highway, it is quickly going to capture the attention of other drivers. Because it is unusual, drivers are more likely to take the time to look at and read the ad. In addition, anyone walking by a parked mobile billboard is more likely to take notice of it because of its novelty. It Can’t Be Turned Off Unlike a radio ad, drivers can’t simply change the channel to get away from an ad being presented to them using a mobile billboard. It’s right there in front of them and difficult to ignore. Particularly if they’re parked next to it at a stop, drivers really have no option but to notice and read the signs. Repeating the Message Even though one of the advantages of mobile billboards is that you can send them down different routes whenever you want to, you can also choose to repeat your message along the same route day after day. For instance, the ad could be driven along a busy highway where you know a large number of your customers happen to drive every day. This gives you the advantages of a fixed billboard without the expense of having to rent a costly space. Greater Flexibility Another advantage you enjoy when using mobile billboards is that they offer great flexibility in the way you present your ads and how frequently you can change them. It’s very easy to change mobile ads on a regular basis. This is because all the trucks return to a centralized location where such changes can quickly be made.  Another part of the flexibility that mobile billboards offer is that you can position them in a responsive way. For instance, when you know that a particular area is having a special event that’s likely to draw crowds, you can have your mobile billboard repositioned there for the...

Packing Tips For International Relocation

Posted by on Sep 23, 2014 in Blog, Business

Moving abroad can be a daunting experience, and it’s tough to whittle all of your possessions down to a few bags of stuff. Here are some tips on how to make it through the process, without spending an arm and a leg, and without forgetting anything you’ll really need. Make Copies and Back-Up Important Information Before you leave, make sure to protect your most important information, such as your passport, birth certificate, and bank account information. You should make copies of your identification, taking a few copies with you and storing a copy on your computer. Avoid Storage Units If at all possible, avoid storing your belongings. You may be reluctant to say goodbye to your favorite pieces of furniture, but the costs of storage can add up quickly over time, to the point where you’ve paid for the items twice over. Unless your items are simply irreplaceable, consider selling them and putting the earnings towards your moving costs. Look for Furnished Apartments Renting works differently across countries. In many places, it is expected that apartments will be furnished. If you look for furnished apartments, you can save a bundle on relocation. Network Before You Go One way to get a great furnished apartment is to network with other expats before you go. You may be able to find a spare room or take over the apartment of someone who’s moving back home and leaving their stuff behind. Besides, becoming a part of the expat community quickly will help you adjust to your new home. You’ll know more about what to expect and be able to pack accordingly. Take a Few Comfort Items– But Not Too Many If you use special hygiene products, such as designer shampoos or lotions, you may want to take a few extra replacements in your bags. The costs of such items can be much higher abroad. However, realize that at some point, you’ll likely want to adjust to the products that are available in your new country. This can save you a lot of money and hassle. Use an International Moving Company If you are having trouble sorting out the logistics of moving abroad, an international moving company like MATCO Transportation Systems can help you decide how you’ll transport your items and where you’ll store the items you’re leaving behind. These companies can often find a more economical way for you to get your stuff abroad, so don’t skip this important step when making your...

5 Money-Saving And Energy Efficient Practices For A Home Office

Posted by on Sep 23, 2014 in Blog, Business

Incorporating a number of energy efficient practices into your home office will enable you to save money on electricity. Paying for appliances and other electronic devices can quickly become costly.  Luckily, there are a few practices you can implement in your home office to save money this year. Avoid Standby Mode Standby is a good feature to use for a few minutes, but should not be in use throughout the day. Setting a computer to standby mode still consumes approximately 30 watts of energy. Electronic devices should always be turned off when not in use. Turn Off Monitors Computer monitors are often easily overlooked because some need to be switched off manually. A forgotten computer monitor drains the amount of energy needed for a printer to print 800 or more pages. Screen savers do not reduce a monitor’s energy use. It is best to make a cognizant effort to turn off your computer monitor while it is not in use. Install A Ceiling Fan An AC unit is often the go to cooling system for many homes; however it can be costly. If operated for three hours an AC unit typically use 3,500 watts of energy compared to a ceiling fan’s 75 watts of energy. Ceiling fan’s have grown increasingly in efficiency and effectiveness. New blade technology has made it easier for fans to circulate air effectively and generate a satisfying breeze. This option is more energy efficient than running the AC unit. All-purpose Printer Printers that perform several functions are initially more expensive than a standard printer. However, they will save you money down the line. It takes less energy for an all-purpose printer to operate than having a device for every function. Forgo the Mini Fridge A small fridge placed in your home office can be an extremely convenient appliance. While the walk to the kitchen saves you time the amount of energy a mini fridge consumes can be costing you money. According to Consumer Reports, smaller fridges can use as much energy as a full-size fridge. This is due to the fact that a smaller fridge is much more sensitive to room temperature.  If your home office is warm the fridge will work harder to keep beverages and foods cold. A home office is a nice place to get work done, but it is easy to increase your yearly expenses if you aren’t careful. Start implementing these energy efficient practices in your home office. For more information about office appliances, contact your local appliance sales companies, such as McIver’s Appliance Sales & Service...

4 Steps To De-Stress Your Move

Posted by on Sep 23, 2014 in Blog, Business

Moving is one of life’s great stressors, right up there with divorce, death and serious illness. Even if your move is the result of a positive change such as a new career or new marriage, moving provokes anxiety. Below are a few ways to minimize the inevitable stress of your upcoming move. 1. Don’t Procrastinate on Making a Plan Moving takes time. If possible, give yourself a couple of months to prepare. The more time you can take to organize your move, the less stressful it will be. Put pen to paper and make a list of everything you will need to accomplish before your move. It will be a long list, but having it on paper will give you a place to begin.  2. Decide Whether to Hire Movers Hiring professional movers is one of the best stress reducing choices you can make. Movers free you from the physical strain of moving by, literally, doing the heavy lifting. Professionals will know also how best to keep your valuables safe and damage-free during transportation. Many who choose a do-it-yourself move for economical reasons fail to factor in all the costs associated with this choice. Expenses often overlooked by DIY movers include packing supplies as well as gas, food and lodging for the time on the road. The extreme difficulty of driving a large, unfamiliar rental truck is often underestimated as well. Make sure to weigh the emotional as well as economic factors when deciding whether to hire movers or to go it alone. 3. Have a Moving Sale Moving is a perfect opportunity to rid yourself of clutter. Go through everything in the house, determine which items to sell, which to give away and which to trash. The last thing you want is to expend time and energy moving junk that you would really rather be rid of. A moving sale the weekend before you pack up is an excellent way to lighten your load in more ways than one. Getting rid of old stuff can be emotionally freeing and make you eager for a brand new beginning. A moving sale will also provide you with extra cash that always comes in handy during a move.  4. Say a Proper Goodbye You will miss the people and places you are leaving behind, so take the time to honor this with a proper goodbye. Visit favorite neighborhood haunts and memorialize your town, house and friends in photos and videos. Lastly, throw an amazing going away party to celebrate both the life you are leaving behind and the life you are moving...
